I have not caught any cats in my trap to date. I'm glad for that.

I do want to mention that during the last week my dogs have cornered 2 cats in my back yard. (a large calico with a white belly and legs, and a white cat with a red or pink collar).

I did not allow my dogs to harm either cat but I do worry what may have happened had I not been aware of what was going on. My back yard is completely fenced in with 6 ft privacy fencing. It took effort for those cats to get into the yard. My dogs were only doing what comes naturally to them, protecting their territory. I would be mortified if my dogs were to kill any animal.

Do you BAIT your traps??

Let me tell you something about cats my friend, they are wanderers and explorers. I have an Indoor/Outdoor cat. When I let her out I am NOT an irresponsible pet owner! She wants to go out! It is in her and every cats nature to want to be out. She COMES BACK every time, because she knows where her home is, and where the food and love she receives is!

Yes, there are sick and diseased stray animals, but not every cat that happens upon your TRAP is guilty!

I let my Hoshi out knowing the risks of the road and wild animals, I had no idea I also had to be worried about sick, demented humans worried about beloved pets getting too close to their house! Do you shoot squirrels that take one branch step too close to your porch?

And by the way my friend, should one of your beloved dogs ever accidentally get loose and near my property, I will do the safe and "right" thing and go get it euthanized for the safety of my cats and the general well being of Pecatonica.

Ok, I need to add my 2 cents worth here. As a dog owner, do you realize how annoying it is when your dog is knocking things off the window barking at a cat that is in the dog's backyard? How about trying to restraing your dog when you're in your own backyard because someone's cat has entered that same backyard? How about finding cat poop in your yard and having to clean it up? I'm sure if my dog did that in your yard you wouldn't just brush it off. How about when it's raining outside and you have to sit and listen to someone's cat howling outside your window because it's out in the rain? I have even had one cat clinging to my bedroom window screen when it was raining outside. It breaks my heart to see that. A responsible pet owner does not let it's animal roam free. I have heard many people complain about the amount of cats that are allowed to roam free. There have also been times during the winter where I go to back my car out of my driveway to see a cat dart out from underneath it. In my opinion, that is NOT being a responsible cat owner. Anyone who would let a dog do that would be fined.
Ok, climbing off my soap box now, but just wanted to state that there are many people annoyed with cats roaming on their property ;)

It is of my opinion that cats that behave the way that you describe are actual strays and/or wild. Domesticated, free roaming cats tend to stay near their home turf and are smart enough to seek shelter quietly near their homes. I have been an indoor/outdoor cat owner all my near 40 year life and have observed this behavior first hand.

Your problems are with strays, not domestics.

Why is it you ask about Village ordinances about burning leaves, and Village ordinances about backyard swimming pools, and want to act as a good citizen within the law, but you aren’t curious about laws regarding domesticated animals being fenced or tethered?

Your cats, trespassing on property where the owners do not want them, are a violation of someone else’s private property! Please keep them in your own yard. We prefer wild birds and rabbits on our properties. Your cats are predators. You are an irresponsible pet owner if you don’t keep them off the properties whose owners do not want their presence.

Way to be cordial to a new resident there Ed. You don't always have to be so abrasive in your posts. There were more polite ways you could have posted this.

Welcome to the neighborhood, cityslickr! Most of us are very nice here.

I have to agree with Ed. I'm NOT trying to be rude or anything. I have a dog, I do NOT want cats, whether they be domesticated or strays in my yard. They set my dog OFF something fierce. I do NOT understand the mentality that it is ok for your pet to be in my yard and even in my garage. Why is that ok??? It's not ok for my dog to be in anyone's yard! The original poster that everyone is bashing has dogs, so of course he doesn't want cats in his yard. It is NOT ok to let your pet out, whatever kind it is from a gerbil to a horse to roam all day and all night until it wants to come home. And getting mad at others who find this not acceptable????? The reasoning is beyond me...
