Pec Playhouse Theatre is pleased to announce its annual high school production, Happily Ever Once Upon, put on by local students and Youth Committee members.
It's twenty years after the ball and there's trouble in the Enchanted Kingdom. Cinderella has wrinkles, Prince Charming is a little paunchy, and the kingdom teeters on the brink of bankruptcy in this fairy-tale parody by Virginia Kidd. Worse yet, Cinderella's fairy godmother is blackmailing her, and Red Riding Hood suddenly has eyes for the Prince. Cinderella and the Prince may have to resort to drastic measures and turn the Enchanted Kingdom into a tourist attraction.
The play will be under the creative direction of Katie L. Smull and Glen Wiegert. Katie Smull, long-time volunteer for Pec Playhouse Theatre, directed the high school production, The Curious Savage, in 2007. She brings fifteen years of acting, stage managing, and costuming experience to the production. Smull recently appeared in Odd Couple (Female Version). Glen Wiegert first appeared in Pec Playhouse Theatre’s Our Town in 1993. Since then he has worked both on-stage and back-stage as sound designer and operator, set builder, and director for our 2006 high school show, Death by Chocolate. Glen currently serves on our Board of Directors.
The high school production holds an important place in PPT's history. Pec Playhouse Theatre was formed in 1991 by a group of Pecatonica High School students and graduates. With the help of community members, the students organized and produced PPT's very first show, Out of the Frying Pan, funded entirely by membership dues and proceeds from a car wash. The high school show tradition continues with each season and is highly celebrated as a unique opportunity for area students.
The cast is Millie Koppean as Cinderella, Emily Chappell as Melba, Shelby Davidson as Goldilocks, Jenna Wilder as Little Red Riding Hood, Ian Storck as Prince Charming, Ollie Simpson as Jason, Matthew O’Rourke as A. E. Rumpelstiltskin, Sydney Johnson as Rapunzel, Emily Warner as Gretchen, Macie Bouray as Aletta, Kellye Morrison as Nanine, Michael Rosenberger as the Pied Piper, Nathan Stephanson as Jack Caldwell, Tara Lynn Page as Princess #1, Kayla Cox as Princess #2, Megan Kleckler as Princess #3, Sarah Hott as Princess #4, Amanda Busby as Princess #5, and Travis Schoonhoven as the voice of the Narrator.
Come see a quality high school performance in an intimate and rustic theatre and experience a PPT tradition.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm April 17-26, 2009. Tickets go on sale March 27th and are $10 for all seats. To reserve your seats for this hilarious fairy tale spin-off, call the Box Office at (815) 239.1210. For more information, visit www.pecplayhouse.org.
